Let’s crash into this week’s waves.
Mini Mega Drive Gets a Release Date & Price Point
We knew it was coming but now we have succulent detail.
Following in the footsteps of Nintendo with their mini NES and SNES machines and Sony with their Playstation Mini, SEGA has finally confirmed when they’ll be joining in the fun with the SEGA Mega Drive Mini. The difference here is that SEGA have long been fast and loose with their licencing for emulation consoles, most of which are frankly terrible.
This time, SEGA are tackling the emulation in-house so, while we all wait to see if the sound quality’s there and the framerate drops are true to the original, we can all get saving in time for release on 19 September 2019 for a very reasonable £69.99.
The console will come with two replica controllers and forty games, ten of which have been revealed to date:
Ecco The Dolphin
Castlevania The New Generation (Bloodlines)
Space Harrier II
Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine
ToeJam & Earl
Sonic The Hedgehog
New Sakura Wars Title to Release Spring 2020
Sakura Wars is back. Taking place a decade after the events of 2010’s (or 2005’s in Japan) So Long, My Love, Project Sakura Wars (presumably a working title) is hitting the PS4 next Spring.
With character designs from manga artist, Tite Kubo of Bleach fame, music from composer Kohei Tanaka (Gravity Rush, Resonance of Fate, Alundra) and story by Jiro Ishii (who’s list of games is notable but includes my GOTY of 2018, 428: Shibuya Scramble) this entry is shaping up to be something special.
